Healthcare algorithms are frequently used to guide decision making for the direct care of patients and for population management. An AHRQ project is reviewing published research on: how algorithms and algorithm-informed decision tools can introduce racial or ethnic bias into care; how the use of algorithms affect racial/ethnic disparities in access to and quality of care and health outcomes; strategies to avoid bias in algorithms; and standards for the development of equitable algorithms.
