Health equity is central to the program’s mission and design of Cancer Survivorship. The program focuses on expanding workforce capacity in communities that disproportionately experience barriers to cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship care. Rather than relying exclusively on specialty oncology models that may be inaccessible to many patients, this approach builds expertise directly within trusted primary care settings that already serve diverse populations.

Pamela Ganshow, MD

Director of Cancer Prevention and Survivorship Clinical Programs

University of Illinois Cancer Center – UI Health

Pamela Ganschow, MD, is Director of Cancer Prevention and Survivorship Clinical Programs at the University of Illinois Cancer Center. She practices at UI Health, providing patient-centered care focused on cancer prevention, risk assessment and survivorship, and she is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UIC. Her cancer-relevant research interests span the breadth of cancer care, from screening and prevention through diagnosis and survivorship, identifying gaps and developing best practices in cancer care across the continuum. Improving access to high-quality services and interventions, such as patient navigation, can help reduce disparities in cancer outcomes. Much of her work has focused on health systems research, health literacy and numeracy, and implementation science as it relates to best practices to integrate both survivorship care and cancer genetics services with personalized cancer risk management.
