The Institute of Medicine of Chicago (IOMC) will share highlights of its virtual sessions from September 2020 through December 2021 and identify its future ongoing plan related to State of Health of Chicago Program.  The overall program focused on creating systemic change in the time of a pandemic. The sessions conducted over the past year included COVID-19, the social determinants of health, health inequity, systemic racism, maternal health, and other critical issues related to creating systemic change in the time of a pandemic. 

The State of Health of Chicago is a bi-annual convening conducted by the Institute of Medicine of Chicago that evaluates the current landscape of health equity, population health, public health, and community health of the City of Chicago, its collar counties, and the State of Illinois.

Over 50 speakers and numerous volunteers contributed their expertise and time to the State of Health of Chicago since September 2020. IOMC will present highlights of the past virtual sessions and declare its focus and goals to foster systemic change and improve health equity for the next two years. 

By attending this session, you will be able to:

  • State the healthcare and public health grade for Chicago and the State of Illinois for its performance during COVID-19 in specific areas such as child care, youth, mental health, maternal health and morbidity, opioids, senior care and others.
  • Identify improvements made over the the past two years in Chicago and the State of Illinois
  • Apply and relate to potential improvements that will be suggested to improve policies, systems, accountabilities, funding mechanisms to address deficits, gaps, etc. to foster systemic change during a pandemic
