Biosketch
Dr. Maurice Lemon brings more than 25 years of health systems and hospital operations, academic affiliation, and medical education experience to HMA. He is interested in access to care issues for medically underserved populations. He has worked extensively on relationships between hospitals and academic medical centers.

Dr. Lemon spent most of his career at John Stroger Hospital of Cook County (formerly Cook County Hospital) in Chicago, a nationally-lauded, 464-bed health care facility with a long tradition of community-focused care and tertiary care. Most recently, as chief medical officer, Dr. Lemon managed 500 employed and unionized physicians, regulatory compliance and the Joint Commission accreditation activities. He was also responsible for core measure performance improvement.

Previously, Dr. Lemon served as program director and associate chair for education in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Lemon led one of the largest internal medicine residency training programs in the country, supervising residency and fellowship programs. He subsequently took on the role of hospital director of medical education, during which time he oversaw all graduate and undergraduate programs and the more than 400 resident physicians employed by the institution.

Dr. Lemon earned his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, master's degree in public health from the University of Michigan and bachelor's degree from Brown University. He trained in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital. He is an associate professor of medicine and preventive medicine at Rush University Medical School.

Dr. Lemon is a nationally recognized writer and presenter on medical education, physician-hospital relations, and cross-cultural health care issues. He is a practicing and board-certified general internist and geriatrician.
